Proposing additional consideration for awarding the Ho Chi Minh Prize to poet Giang Nam

Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee proposed the Prime Minister to consider and award the Ho Chi Minh Prize in literature and art to poet Giang Nam – the author of the song “Homeland”.

In a recent dispatch to the Prime Minister, the Provincial People’s Committee said that the proposal was based on the aspirations of the artists and writers. The poet Giang Nam has many excellent works, greatly influencing the people of Khanh Hoa and the whole country. Currently, the poet is 94 years old, in poor health, and the world of writers and artists wants the state to soon give him an award.

According to the Provincial People’s Committee, previously the Provincial Department of Culture and Sports guided the author to register for the next donation in 2025. The reason was that the consideration and donation of the Ho Chi Minh Prize in literature and art in 2021 had already been completed. Once completed, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (the standing body of the State Council for donation) is preparing documents to submit to the Prime Minister.

Giang Nam’s real name is Nguyen Sung, from Binh Tri village, Ninh Binh commune, Ninh Hoa district (Khanh Hoa). He joined the revolution in 1945, former deputy secretary general of the Southern Liberation Arts Association cum editor-in-chief of Van Nghe Giai Phong newspaper and member of the Propaganda Committee of the Saigon – Gia Dinh area.

Out of post Countrysidehe is also the author of many famous poems such as Listen to me go to college, Vietnamese language… He was awarded the first State Prize in literature and art, 21 years ago (in 2001), the second prize in poetry of Van Nghe magazine in 1961 (poem of the homeland); Nguyen Dinh Chieu Literature and Art Prize (1960-1965) of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam for poetry (collection of poems Homeland).

The Ho Chi Minh Prize honors outstanding scientific, technical, educational, and literary and artistic works. In which, the field of literature and art includes the following categories: theatre, music, architecture, dance, folk art, literature, cinema, photography and fine arts. Awards are considered and announced every 5 years.
