Thailand loosens Covid-19 barriers for international tourists

It takes time to recover tourism in Southeast Asia and Thailand

According to industry experts, it will take a long time for tourism in Southeast Asia and Thailand to recover to the pre-pandemic threshold. Suphajee Suthumpun is the CEO of Dusit International Group (Dusit International Group), a company specializing in accommodation in Thailand. The recovery could take years, she said.

“For everything to return to normal, like when Thailand welcomed 40 million international visitors, it is not a matter of this year or 2023. We cannot do it the same way as before. In the past, we focused on creating friendly, respectful visitors, providing personalized service. But in the post-Covid-19 era, we will have to add some elements, have to add local connections and local experiences,” said Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun.

According to the spokesperson, the Covid-19 alert level has been lowered because the number of Covid-19 patients requiring ventilators and Covid-19 related deaths is decreasing.

Thanakorn added that Prime Minister Prayut also encouraged people and government agencies to continue to take universal precautions and vaccinate as much as possible so that Covid-19 could be declared an endemic disease. .
