The odds of getting into High School for the Gifted dropped

On the evening of May 23, the High School for the Gifted (National University of Ho Chi Minh City) summed up the data of the 10th grade exams after more than a week of opening the registration portal.

2,300 students registered for the exam, with 595 entry criteria, the average match rate was nearly 3.9. Compared to last year, the fighting rate decreased. In the 2021 enrollment season, with 600 quotas, the school received more than 2,670 recordsodds of 1/4,5.

This is also the year the High School for the Gifted has the lowest match rate in recent years.

This year, 993 students registered their first wish to English class, 672 students registered for Math class. The school has two specialized classes in each of these subjects, each class has 35 students. Therefore, the ratio of English class is 1/14; Math 1/9.6 – these are the two most competitive classes.

In the academic year 2022-2023, the gifted school of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, has completely changed its enrollment method. The school stopped recruiting non-specialized classes, opened more specialized classes by field.

Nine specialized classes with 315 subjects, including: Math, English – two classes each; Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Literature – one class each. Each class does not exceed 35 students, studying at campus 1 in District 5.

Eight specialized classes by field, total quota of 280 students, studying at campus 2, urban area of ​​Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Thu Duc city. In which, six classes specializing in Natural Science and Technology focus on improving interdisciplinary thinking capacity in solving problems in the fields of natural sciences and life sciences. Two major social science classes focus on improving interdisciplinary thinking capacity in solving problems in the fields of culture, politics, economy and society.

The entrance exam for 10th grade at High School for the Gifted took place on June 4-6. Candidates are required to take four exams. Three non-specialist, compulsory exams include Math, English, Literature in the form of essay and multiple choice. The elective exam is among the subjects of Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature and English in the form of essays.

Students are allowed to register for a maximum of two subjects. If registering for two subjects, candidates must choose one subject from each combination group: group 1 (Math, Literature); group 2 (English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics).

For specialized classes, the subject is counted as the exam subject corresponding to each specialized class. Particularly, the Informatics class can use specialized math scores for admission. With a special class in the field of Natural Science, the subject is counted as one of Math, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. With a major in the field of Social Sciences, the majors are English and Literature.





The odds of getting into the gifted high school class are down

Suppose, candidates choose Math and English as the two subjects, they can apply for admission to the specialized classes in Mathematics, Information, English, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.

Each candidate registers at least one wish, maximum five wishes to enter the specialized class. Candidates are considered for equal admission according to the exam results, regardless of the priority order of registration aspirations. However, they were only admitted to the highest priority aspiration.

This is the first school year that the school implements the autonomy project approved by the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; increase tuition fees according to the financial autonomy roadmap. Expected revenue is 1.3 million VND per month. The school is committed to providing scholarships and tuition support to poor students who are not eligible to study when matriculated.
