According to Forbes, the remains were found in Armenia, where the kingdom of Urartu once existed. The kingdom prospered from the 9th century BC to the 6th century BC.

The kingdom of Urartu maintained good relations with the powerful empires of that period in the Mediterranean and India. The Urartu have a culture that focuses on hunting, military, and trade.

The kingdom of Urartu had faced many invaders, such as the Scythians. The Urartu archers did a good job defending the kingdom.

New research on the remains found in the area shows that these are Urartu warriors, including both male and female.

There is one set of remains that has particularly caught the attention of archaeologists. It is a female remains in her 20s, buried with many pottery and jewelry. Archaeologists initially thought that the remains belonged to a nobleman, but after examining the bone samples, it was concluded that this was a female warrior.

The muscles attached to the bones in the upper half of the body are very strong, indicating that the girl was active with high intensity, the archaeological team said. There are indications that the girl is proficient with the bow, with marks left by the bow in the chest area. The girl’s femur is also markedly modified, suitable for military activities such as horseback riding, according to the research team.

The girl has a wound on her left knee, caused by an arrow. This wound healed long ago, before the girl died.

Other injuries to the bone appeared at the time of the girl’s death. There are two cuts in the left hip and right thigh, while the left leg has a stab wound. There were many types of weapons that caused the wounds, indicating that the girl was not killed by just one person. “We assume that female warriors died in battle,” the researchers said.

The team suggests that the female warriors of the kingdom of Urartu may have been the basis for the ancient Greeks to weave stories about female Amazon warriors. This legendary all-female warrior tribe is described as living in the eastern part of Asia Minor, near Armenia.

In many myths, Amazonian female warriors were seen as the arch-enemies of the ancient Greeks. Heroes of Greek mythology, from Hercules to Theseus to Achilles, must prove their talents through battles with the queen of the Amazons.
