Ukraine called Kissinger a ‘panic in Davos’ for calling on Kiev to cede territory to Russia

“Mr. Kissinger proposed giving Russia part of Ukraine to stop the war just as easily as he would allow it from Poland or Lithuania. It’s good that the Ukrainians in the trenches don’t have time to listen ‘ panicking people in Davos’. They are a bit busy defending freedom and democracy,” Mr. Podolyak wrote on Twitter.

Mr. Podolyak also reiterated his position that Ukraine cannot make territorial concessions, even if this could lead to peace.

Meanwhile, Inna Sovsun, a member of Ukraine’s parliament, said Kissinger’s views were “really shameful”.

According to Washington Postthe “pre-war state” that Kissinger refers to is the restoration of the status quo under which Russia officially controls the Crimean peninsula and informally controls the two regions of Lugansk and Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once said that part of the conditions for peace talks with Russia would include restoring pre-war borders.

A poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology in May found that 82% of Ukrainians said they were not ready to give up any inch of land even if the war continued. Only 10% thought ceding a piece of territory was worthwhile to end the war, the remaining 8% could not make a decision.
