Bui Hoang Viet Anh will be the captain of U23 Vietnam, the two vice captains are goalkeeper Nguyen Van Toan and midfielder Ly Cong Hoang Anh. The new captain of U23 Vietnam will receive the first task, a friendly match against U23 UAE on June 28 in Dubai.

The center-back of Hanoi club will also take over this job at the AFC U23 Championship which will take place from June 2 in Uzbekistan. This is the first time Viet Anh has worn the captain’s armband in the Asian U23 team. He is also the first captain under coach Gong Oh-kyun.

Viet Anh is 1m89 tall, with a knack for kicking a central defender. He started to be noticed when he played for the Vietnam U18 team in 2017. Two years later, he played for Ha Tinh in the First Division on loan from Hanoi, and was an important factor in helping the team move up to the V-League.
Thanks to that impressive performance, Viet Anh was called by Hanoi to compete in the V-League 2020, in the context of Tran Dinh Trong and Do Duy Manh being injured. Midfielder from Thai Binh province is a member of U23 participating in the U23 Asian final round 2020 and was called up to participate in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Currently, Viet Anh is the most experienced player in Vietnam’s U23 squad, playing an important role in the U23 journey to win the 31st SEA Games.
