Huge fire at the pediatric ward of Senegal hospital, 11 babies died

Demba Diop Sy, Mayor of Tivaouane, said police and firefighters were still working at the scene, but did not provide further details.

According to Senegal’s Health Minister – Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr, the initial cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical short.

Minister Sarr – currently in Geneva (Switzerland) to attend the session of the World Health Assembly – announced that he would cut short his working trip and return to Senegal immediately.

Sharing on Twitter, Senegal’s President Macky Sall said he had received the news about the incident and felt extremely hurt.

“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the mothers and their families,” Sall wrote.
