Shooting at elementary school in Texas: The number of victims increased to 21

This is the latest mass killing attack in the context of the United States suffering from gun violence.

Governor Greg Abbott said the suspect carried out the case shooting at school, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, was killed by officers responding to the shooting scene. Two policemen were injured, but their injuries were not serious. Texas state authorities said the suspect acted alone.

To date, the death toll is 19 schoolchildren between the ages of 7 and 10 and two adults, including the shooter.

The motive for the massacre is currently unknown. Service shoot comes just 10 days after 10 people were killed in Buffalo, New York, in a predominantly black neighborhood. Local authorities charged an 18-year-old man who they said traveled hundreds of miles to Buffalo and opened fire with an assault rifle at a grocery store.

Details of the Texas shootings are still sketchy. The attack took place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, about 80 miles west of San Antonio. The suspect is said to have abandoned his vehicle and entered the school with a handgun, possibly an assault rifle, before opening fire.

Sergeant Erick Estrada of the Texas Department of Public Safety said police saw the suspect get out of a car he parked near the school, carrying a rifle and a backpack. Police exchanged gunfire with him before he entered the south side of the school and started shooting. Estrada said the gunman was wearing a bulletproof vest.

CBS News reports that investigators believe Ramos shot and killed his grandmother before going to Robb’s school.

University Hospital in San Antonio announced on Twitter that it had received two victims of the Uvalde shooting, a 66-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl, both in critical condition.

Hours after the shooting, police cordoned off the school with yellow wires. Police patrol cars, ambulances and local authorities were present at the scene of the shooting.
