The highest tuition fee for international schools in Hanoi is 800 million VND

Hanoi has 13 100% foreign-invested inter-level educational institutions, often referred to as international schools. Every year, the tuition fees of international schools are usually adjusted in an upward direction. This year, some schools remained at the same level as last year, such as Hanoi International School (HIS), but most of them increased by several tens of millions of dong.

British International School (BIS Hanoi) based in Long Bien has the highest high school tuition fees in Hanoi with about 705-807 million VND a year. While for preschool and primary school, the United Nations International School Hanoi (UNIS) is the highest receiving unit.

The French International School (Lycée français Alexandre Yersin – LFAY) has the lowest tuition fees among the public schools, at 7,950 Euros (about 196 million VND).

The above tuition fees apply to parents who pay once for the whole year. If you submit early according to the school’s schedule, parents will get a little discount, 3-5%. On the contrary, if paying by term or quarter (2-4 installments), parents have to pay a higher rate, maybe only 3-4%, but the school also collects 17% higher.

For example, for grade 13 (the last grade of high school) of British International School, parents can apply in three installments. But at that time, the total tuition fee was nearly 950 million VND, not more than 807 million VND.

Like many private schools, International schools have very high registration, enrollment or reservation fees, about 1,000 USD or more (more than 23 million VND). ParkCity International School Hanoi (ISPH) stipulates the registration fee for primary and secondary school students up to more than 37 million VND, a deposit of 35 million VND, one-time payment before enrollment. In addition, parents still have to pay some optional fees such as bus, lunch, extra-curricular activities…

Adding all the fees, parents have to spend several hundred million to billions a year studying at international schools. In return, they can “study abroad”, experience the same educational environment and study program abroad. When they graduate from school, they also get international certificates such as the International High School Certificate (IGCSE), the British Baccalaureate Certificate (A-Level), etc. Students attending these schools are often oriented to study abroad at university level. study instead of studying at home.

International schools enroll students in a number of ways such as application review, questionnaire, interview or entrance test, without any conditions on nationality. However, some specific schools will have an audience priority policy. For example, the French International School is under the direct management of the French Education Abroad Agency (AEFE), so priority is given to students of French nationality.

Hanoi has more than 2,800 preschools and high schools, of which more than 2,200 are public schools, 550 non-public schools, 13 inter-level educational institutions and 21 foreign-invested preschools.

For public schools, in the 2022-2023 school year, the city is expected to collect from 50,000 to 300,000 VND a month for pre-schools and high schools that have not yet guaranteed regular expenses. Self-financed schools usually earn between 2.4 and 3.2 million dong a month. High-quality public schools are charged tuition fees based on the ceiling of 5.1-5.7 million VND per month depending on the level of study.

For non-public schools, the tuition fees are very diverse, from 30 million VND to 100-200 million VND per year. The level of hundreds of millions often appears in schools that teach some subjects according to foreign programs or have a bilingual or international system.
