According to the meteorological agency, usually in May (the transition month between the Northeast and Southwest monsoons), under the influence of the monsoon trough, the Northern provinces still frequently appear showers and rain. thunderstorm. Therefore, rains similar to those from May 21 in the North are not the first time.

However, this widespread rain is of great intensity, the total rainfall is common from 100-250mm, in some places like Vinh Phuc, there is a record rainfall. The 4-day rainfall in Tam Dao is up to 808mm, this is the highest rainfall in May so far.

In particular, on May 23 alone in Tam Dao area (Vinh Phuc) there was heavy rain with a measured rainfall of 464mm/day. This is the largest daily rainfall recorded in Tam Dao from 1962 to present.

Also on the 23rd and 24th of May, in the Northwest, Viet Bac and some places in the Northern Delta (including Hanoi capital) there was a very heavy rain, the average rainfall is from 250-300mm. . The total 2-day rainfall in some places has exceeded the average monthly rainfall of many years by 30-50%.

Heavy rain returns to the North

In the long-term forecast, from now to the end of 2022, the rainfall in the North will tend to be higher than the multi-year average (average) from July to September 2022. In contrast, in the Central Highlands and the South, the rainfall tends to be less than the average from June to September, 2022.
