Vietnam signed an agreement on ODA loans for disaster prevention projects

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an ODA loan agreement with Vietnam worth USD 147 million for the project “Disaster prevention and climate change using Earth observation satellites”.

The project will provide necessary equipment for the development and use of Earth observation satellites in Hoa Lac, Hanoi, promote the use of data obtained from satellites, and support the improvement of capacity for staff to operate and maintain equipment.

Through this support, the project will contribute to disaster risk reduction in Vietnam by strengthening disaster response measures and making different plans on the basis of forecasting the increase in natural disasters. natural disasters caused by climate change.

The project also contributes to the implementation of Goal 13 (Urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts) in the Sustainable Development Goals.

An ODA loan of USD 56 million for phase 1 was approved in November 2011, and this loan agreement is for a phase 2 ODA loan. Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP) ) is applied for the ODA loan for this project.

The project will apply Japanese synthetic aperture radar satellite technology with low cost, high performance, compact size, low cost and can deliver satellite images in a short time. This technology will contribute to the development of the operating system and satellites equipped in the project along with the launch of Earth observation satellites.
