Agricultural product export growth strategy

Although the path to export agricultural products in Vietnam is open, it also poses many problems in production to be able to better meet the requirements of the market.

In the first 5 months of this year, the US is still the largest market for Vietnam’s agricultural, forestry and fishery products, with an export turnover of nearly 4.9 billion USD. In order to increase the export turnover of agricultural products to difficult markets, Vietnam needs appropriate strategies.

Green-skinned pomelo will be the 7th fruit of Vietnam to be exported to the US market. In Ben Tre, where there are 8,000 hectares of green-skinned pomelo, the gardens have been certified VietGAP, GlobalGAP, additional standards are quickly adopted by farmers.

“The members of the cooperative have a large area, have achieved VietGAP or GlobalGAP, I proceed to develop the planting area code for the consulting units to support and help with the preparation process”, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Bao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ben Tre Green Grapefruit Cooperative, said.

The fruit and vegetable industry aims to export 4 billion USD this year. Efforts to diversify markets are clearly shifting when the proportion of fruit and vegetable exports to Europe and America continuously increases.

“One is that we form alliances of exporters because we can’t go it alone. If one business doesn’t have goods, the other will have goods. Together, logistics costs will decrease and There is such an alliance so that we can build a raw material area to a raw material area,” said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan.

“We have had a growth momentum since the end of 2021 after Resolution 128 was issued, especially recently, the Ministry has continuously held policy consultation sessions for markets. Accordingly, we focus on We focus on specific markets and products, including representatives of Vietnamese trade agencies in other countries to discuss your country’s policies and your country’s needs for each item. I think that’s what businesses really need,” said Ms. Nguyen Cam Trang, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to many experts, Vietnam has many positive signs to be able to reach 50 billion USD in agricultural exports this year. Taking advantage of opportunities from free trade agreements, diversifying markets, strongly shifting to official export… are key solutions being implemented by the agricultural sector.

In order to diversify the agricultural product market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has planned to negotiate the export of a series of new products, such as chili, durian, milk and dairy products, fishmeal and fish oil, products feather products to China; label to Japan; pomelo to New Zealand, USA and India; animal products to Korea; honey to the EU… These are all difficult markets that require high technical requirements, so in order to get a passport into these markets, strict standards of safety and hygiene must be met. .
