Vietnamese sports win big in Olympic sports
The Vietnamese sports delegation won a total of 205 gold medals at the 31st SEA Games, breaking the Games record. In Olympic sports alone, the host athletes also achieved great success in terms of the number of medals.
Specifically, the Vietnamese sports delegation won up to 117 gold medals in 19 sports recognized in the Olympic program (accounting for more than half of the total number of gold medals). This number alone is enough for the home team to top the overall medal table of the congress.
In which, athletics is the “gold mine” of Vietnamese sports with a total of 22 gold medals. Next came wrestling – 17 gold medals – and swimming – 11 gold medals.
At the 31st SEA Games, 24 new congress records were set. In which, Vietnamese athletes contributed 11 records, the most in swimming with the achievements of Nguyen Huy Hoang (men’s 400m freestyle swim), Pham Thanh Bao (men’s 100m backstroke), Tran Hung Nguyen (men’s backstroke). men’s 400m medley) and the men’s 4x200m freestyle swimming team.
A special case of record holder is athlete Pham Thi Hong Thanh, because her achievement is not just a single record. Do do, born in 1999, is counted as breaking 3 records in both the push, jerk and general elections.
It is worth noting that most of the records that Vietnamese athletes set at the 31st SEA Games are Olympic sports, except for 2 diving events. In general, the Vietnamese sports delegation not only fulfilled the target of the total number of medals, but the achievements in Olympic sports also met the set expectations. However, the journey towards a gold medal in the Olympic arena is still far away.
“We will invest in some Olympic content (such as shooting, archery, swimming, athletics) to compete in the Olympic playground. Invest in the world’s top sports and then connect to the next one. goal for ASIAD. Of course, those athletes must also have the goal of getting the SEA Games gold medal.” Head of the Vietnamese sports delegation Tran Duc Phan shared after the Vietnamese sports delegation completed the competition program.
“Vietnamese sports develop an Olympic investment strategy, select excellent key athletes. However, it is very difficult to say exactly when the gold medal will be. It can be said that in the next 20 years, Vietnamese sports will be difficult. It’s an impossible task. In some subjects like swimming and athletics, it’s already difficult for Vietnamese athletes to get ASIAD gold, then it’s even more difficult to go to the Olympics.” Mr. Phan said.
