According to data from the National Office of Intellectual Property, in February, BYD filed an application for intellectual property rights for the designs of two car models. In which, the most notable is the BYD Destroyer 05. This is a new model, belonging to the C-segment sedan segment, using a plug-in hybrid engine, just launched at the Guangzhou auto show in November 2021.

The Destroyer 05 is part of BYD’s “Warship” series of plug-in hybrid vehicles. In China, the car has a total of 5 versions, including 55KM Comfortable, 55KM Luxury, 55KM Premium, 120KM Premium and 120KM Flagship, priced at 18,500-23,850 USD. The designations “55KM” and “120KM” represent the all-electric range: 55 km or 120 km.
The car has an overall length x width x height of 4,780 x 1,837 x 1,495 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm, on par with C-class sedans like Toyota Corolla Altis or Honda Civic.
Appearance BYD Destroyer 05 looks quite like an electric car with the front infinity grille. The lighting system is all LED. The rear lights are connected in a trendy fashion. The body of the car has few embossed lines, creating a streamlined look. Optional 16-inch or 17-inch wheels.
The interior is likened to a Tesla with a 15.6-inch entertainment screen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster designed in the form of a tablet on the most advanced version. The interior is covered with decorative LED lighting systems and is multi-colored leather and stitching. The steering wheel integrates many function buttons and a knob-shaped gear lever.
6-way electric and 4-way manual seats with auxiliary seats. Some other valuable details can be mentioned as the sunroof, automatic 2-zone air-conditioning, rear-seat air-conditioning vents, remote car start, wireless charging, karaoke… The car has 4 modes driving, including: EV, Sport, Normal and Eco.
Outstanding safety technology includes intelligent automatic throttle, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, sign recognition, smart headlights, blind spot warning, pedestrian recognition and protection, and collision warning. front touch, automatic parking, 360 degree camera, 6 airbags…
The car is equipped with an engine called Xiaoyun, an externally charged hybrid, using a combination of a 1.5L gasoline engine and an electric motor. The petrol engine produces 108 hp and 135 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the electric motor of the 55KM version produces 177 hp and 316 Nm of torque, while the electric motor of the 120KM version produces 194 hp and 325 Nm of torque. According to the announcement of BYD, the car consumes only 3.8 liters / 100km.
Registering design intellectual property does not mean that BYD will definitely open the Destroyer 05 for sale in the Vietnamese market. But if that becomes a reality, this will be a new breeze when the C-class sedan segment is gradually losing its attraction to the group of high-rise cars of the same size. This year, the Vietnamese market is expected to welcome two Chinese car brands, including Great Wall and Chery.
