Canadian police shoot down gun-carrying suspect near 5 schools

Police received a tip about the suspect’s presence and opened fire after he approached them, Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said at a news conference. He declined to provide further information, citing the ongoing investigation.

Previously, Toronto police announced on Twitter that they opened fire and injured the armed subject, described as a man in his 20s.

The incident happened at a location about 130 meters from William G Davis Public Elementary School. The blockade order of William G Davis and 4 other schools was lifted after a few hours, according to Reuters.

The incident comes days after a gunman in the state of Texas – USA killed 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school, raising concerns about gun violence around the world.

Joe Garcia fell to the ground and died on May 26 while preparing the funeral for Irma Garcia, his wife of 24 years.

Debra Austin, a relative of Ms. Irma, announced that Mr. Joe “died on the morning of May 26 in a tragic incident involving a medical emergency”. “I believe Mr. Joe passed away because he was so heartbroken over the loss of his wife,” Debra added.

Earlier, Ms. Irma and her colleague Eva Mireless were killed in a shooting caused by 18-year-old Salvador Ramos. He entrenched in the school for about 40 minutes before being shot and killed by police.
