Discovered more than 150 black-shanked douc langurs in Dong Nai

Through research and survey, the Dong Nai rangers discovered seven groups of black-shanked douc langurs from 159 to 192 on Chua Chan mountain, Xuan Loc district.

The above results were announced by the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province on May 27, after the end of the survey and monitoring project of the black-shanked douc in Chua Chan mountain, chaired by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Five years ago, the forest rangers discovered three groups of langurs at an altitude of about 600 meters on Chua Chan mountain and immediately collected and investigated. In the year 2020-2021, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organizes a field survey and video recording to identify a population of seven hundreds of hundreds of black-shanked douc langurs.

The langurs develop quite well, during the period of increasing numbers. Each flock includes adult males and females, young langurs and newborns. The research process recorded the phenomenon of separation and merging.

In addition, the researchers also identified 154 plant species that are food for black-shanked douc, accounting for 48.7% of the total plant species in the investigation area. They did not record langurs eating bark, animals and insects…

The functional departments of Dong Nai have proposed a number of urgent solutions to preserve this rare group of langurs.

The black-shanked douc langur is a primate of the endangered group (endangered and rare animals group 1B) widely distributed in the forests of Vietnam.
