The letter urged President Roosevelt to speed up Uranium research and then launch the Manhattan Project to create an atomic bomb. The US used the first two atomic bombs in this project in Japan at the end of World War II, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties.

Although Einstein was not directly involved in the Manhattan Project, this genius scientist’s letter to President Roosevelt is considered to have played an important role in the development of America’s first atomic weapon.
