According to the latest data on network transfer to keep numbers, which has just been updated by the Department of Telecommunications (under the Ministry of Information and Communications), from November 16, 2018 (the time to start implementing number-keeping network transfer) to January 24. In May 2022, more than 4 million subscribers registered to switch networks. Among them, more than 2.9 million subscribers have successfully switched networks, accounting for 72.5% of the total number of subscribers.

Currently, there are 5 carriers participating in network transfer to keep numbers: MobiFone, VinaPhone, Viettel, Vietnamobile and Reddit (the virtual mobile network of Mobicast company). While MobiFone, VinaPhone and Viettel participated in transferring networks to keep numbers from the very beginning, Vietnamobile only started from January 1, 2019. Particularly, Redi has only connected to the network transfer system to keep numbers since the end of February 2022.

Despite being a “rookie”, Reddi has shown its advantage when attracting 1,023 subscribers to register to move in and only 34 subscribers to register to move. As a result, until now, Reddit has received 863 subscribers and lost 21 subscribers. Thus, Reddit temporarily bargained 842 subscribers.

For those who do not know Mobicast, Mobicast was established in mid-2020 with the reddi virtual mobile network (first number 055). They operate based on cooperation using the infrastructure of partner carriers.

Most impressive is Viettel when it received 1,667,431 subscribers and lost 612,719 subscribers, that means Viettel has actually bought more than 1 million subscribers – a very “terrible” number after less than 4 years of implementing the network transfer program to keep numbers.

On the side of VinaPhone, this network operator lost more than 600,000 subscribers but received nearly 900,000 subscribers, so they are also a bargain in the “war” of switching networks to keep numbers. Although MobiFone is negative about 25,000 subscribers when taking the number of incoming subscribers minus the number of subscribers, the data throughout the process shows that this network operator is the most stable compared to other longtime carriers.

MobiFone is a network operator that keeps a very stable number of subscribers.

The most dismal is Vietnamobile. They lost more than 1.3 million subscribers but only got back only 361 subscribers, overall Vietnamobile lost nearly 1 million subscribers. According to the Vietnam Information and Communication Technology White Paper 2020, Vietnamobile’s mobile subscribers to 2019 are more than 4.78 million, so they have lost nearly 20% of the total number of subscribers in 2019.

Particularly, Gmobile network operator has no plans to participate in the program to switch networks and keep numbers.

Along with the data transferred to and from the network, the Department of Telecommunications also regularly updates the data of carriers that wrongly refuse subscribers to register to switch networks.

Whether you want to switch networks and keep numbers depends on the user’s decision, based on the subscriber’s assessment of the service quality of the network operators. When switching to a new network, the user’s phone number will remain the same but will be able to use the services of the new provider.
