Where does luxury fashion house Chanel, Louis Vuitton get inspiration for high-end jewelry?

“The sight of the starry sky draws us in, envelops us, speaks to infinity, conveys a sense of immensity and depth; but most of all, it always evokes contemplation and reflection”, Camille Flammarion wrote in her famous book L’Astronomie Populaire, conveying humanity’s unrelenting curiosity about the world beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

This thirst for astronomical knowledge dates back to a time when man’s understanding of space was limited to what could be seen with the naked eye. Instead of dealing with the tip of the iceberg, we fill the void with wild assumptions and imaginations, creating various interpretations of science, art, and literature.

Luxury brands draw inspiration from observations, stories, drawings and astronomical images of the stars and constellations, to craft dazzling galactic jewels that sparkle and make richer with nebula motifs.

There are main inspirations that Van Cleef & Arpels loves and constantly expresses in their high-class creativity, which are love stories, nature flowers, animal dances, luck, time. Premium page, fantasy world and astronomy.Julie Becker, CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels Hong Kong and Macau, explains: “As a poetic high-end jeweler with a positive outlook on life, we are constantly inspired by the universe. symbolizes the luxury, the ability to perceive art”.

Van Cleef & Arpels has two collections that embody a stargazing approach between antiquity and modernity. The brand’s Zodiaque collection includes jewelry pieces that represent the symbols of the 12 constellations. The 12 long necklaces celebrate the brand’s starry sky charm created in 1964, with the graphic set against a vibrant backdrop.

Taking the Sagittarius sign for example, there is a symbol of the bow surrounded by a rose gold border, while the other side of the necklace is decorated with a bow cut. On each face, there is an exposed red marble pietersite backing, representing the fire element of the bow.

To mark the event that Halley’s comet is only seen from Earth once every 75 years, Van Cleef & Arpels made a homonymous necklace with a fancy pear-shaped yellow diamond. The tail of the ring is made of white gold, the yellow gold intertwines along the curve of the neck to refer to the movement of the orbit. Yellow gold bands radiate from the gem to mimic the brightness of a comet as illustrated in Giotto di Bondone’s The Adoration of the Magi. The center stone is removable and positioned on a ring with a similar aesthetic, while the designers also give the wearer an option to add a 3.26 carat DFL diamond on the top. the center diamond makes it even more eye-catching.

The recent launch of the Poetry of Time collection at the Watches and Wonders fair demonstrated the application of jewelry making in the world of complicated watches. The Planetarium Automaton is inspired by the solar system and is an elaborate completion of a wristwatch. In it, each planet is decorated with selected gemstones, from white gold with diamonds for Mercury to yellow diamonds for the sun.

Chanel’s contributions to this trend are inherently personal, given the importance of the lions during the life of the eponymous founder. Born in the Leo sign, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel moved to Venice in 1919 after the shock of losing her partner, where, under the bronze statue of the Lion of Venice, she was inspired again. The tiger image is also seen on the buttons of the tweed evening gowns which are characteristic of the brand.

A symbol of hope, strength and protection, the lion has become the spirit of Chanel’s high jewelery line. An enchanting monumental necklace with lion motifs sculpted from finely veined quartz lies between the jewel-encrusted threads, while its feet rest on the diamond star, as if it were the universe in hand.

Louis Vuitton’s Bravery high jewelery set is another anecdotal demonstration of this trend. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of its eponymous founder in 1821, the French luxury brand has released 90 pieces with signature details, reminiscent of a cross-country adventure from the Jura to Paris of a courageous teenager, as well as the journey to become a maker of legendary chests. La Constellation d’Hercule necklace inspired by the constellation Hercules appears only around the time of Louis Vuitton’s birthday of the year. The ring is made of precious stones with a sparkling sheen.
