5 ways to fix Zoom application crashing and hanging while studying or meeting online- Information Technology

Update for Zoom

Zoom often updates the app to provide new features and fix bugs. It is possible that the hang issue is caused by a software glitch.

Normally, the Zoom app checks for updates at launch, but you can also manually check it yourself. To do this, select your profile picture in the top right, then click Check for Updates. If an update is available, it will be downloaded. When done, tap Update to install, then Zoom will restart itself.

Disable hardware acceleration

By default, Zoom uses hardware resources to improve application performance. This is called hardware acceleration. However, in some cases, this acceleration can cause the computer to crash. Try disabling it to fix the problem.

Use the drop-down list next to the Test Speaker and Test Mic buttons to change the device.

If Zoom doesn’t let you access the Video tab and then crashes, this is a Windows bug that can happen when you use an external webcam that’s not plugged in. To fix this, plug in an external webcam before launching Zoom.

Turn off conflicting programs

Although Zoom will work fine with other programs on the system, consider all running processes and close those that are not needed at the time; especially those that can use the camera or webcam in the background, like other chat or conferencing software.

Use Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and switch to the Processes tab. Select unnecessary apps and background processes in turn and click End task.

The free Windows utility PowerToys is known to cause problems with Zoom. specifically the Video Conference Mute module. You should disable this feature if you have PowerToys by launching the utility, switching to the Video Conference Mute tab, and disabling the feature. Restart Zoom when you’ve done that.
