Becoming a billionaire, Mark Cuban still plays with friends when he was poor

Mark Cuban is one of America’s most prominent businessmen. In 1999, at the age of 40, he became a billionaire after selling his company Broadcast.com to Yahoo for $5.7 billion. Currently, he owns a fortune of $ 4.7 billion.

In a 2020 interview, he shared that one of the biggest misconceptions about being super-rich is that money can automatically change you a lot. “Everybody thinks money makes you change. Of course, it is possible, in many respects but not all,” the billionaire said.

Before being successful and wealthy as he is today, Cuban experienced an almost complete bankruptcy in his early 20s. At the time, he couldn’t even open a bank account and had to rent a three-bedroom apartment for $600 a month with five other people. At times, he had to sleep on the sofa or the floor.

To make ends meet, Cuban works as a bartender at a bar. Besides, he also did many different jobs. “I quit or got fired from three jobs in a row,” Cuban recalls.

Even so, Cuban remains optimistic. He said: “Even as a near-bankruptcy, I still had a lot of fun and went out with my friends. Those people are still my good friends.”

Of course, after getting rich, Cuban took some time to adjust to relationships. The billionaire shared: “Perhaps the hardest thing is to communicate with friends and people around you when you have just become rich because they are not sure if you will still be the same as before. At first, both of you. People often feel a bit awkward when they don’t know how to behave. It all takes a while to adjust, but true friends will always be with you, when you are rich or when you are down. .

Having a lot of money, especially when you start a business with many challenges, will definitely change a few things. In Cuban’s case, money gives him more peace of mind and flexibility. “Once I got the money, I was relieved that I wasn’t pressured by bills and living expenses. I no longer had to worry about power cuts, evictions or the like. They used to be It gave me a headache in the past. Now, I don’t have to worry about money anymore. Thanks to that, I can schedule and enjoy life more fully,” Cuban shared.

After becoming a billionaire, Cuban rewarded himself with a trip to Las Vegas and a vacation on a luxury island. “Regardless of the size, having a lot more money than you did when you went bust will change you a little bit. But it doesn’t necessarily change you as much as people think,” he said. This is the biggest misconception.”

This time, after more than two decades on the list of the richest people in the world, Cuban still can’t believe his wealth at times. He said: “Even now, every day, when I suddenly realize I’m rich, I think how the hell did this happen? How could this be? I’m always grateful and don’t take it as a thing. obviously as well as letting it spoil his children.”
