“Our youth did not expect to have such a beautiful road!”

Nearly 40 years ago, Mr. Vu from a village along the Day River in My Duc District (Ha Tay, now in Hanoi) went to Nguyen Ai Quoc I School (now the Political Academy of Region I, headquarters). located at 15 Khuat Duy Tien, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi).

At that time, Khuat Duy Tien street was not as wide as it is now, just a small hamlet road bordering the two wards of Thanh Xuan Bac and Thanh Xuan Nam, serving mainly for the transportation of construction materials of establishments. producing handmade bricks around there, just enough for agricultural vehicles to move.

Mr. Vu worked hard.

“On holidays, we often crossed the wall of the school and ran to the pond next to the brick kiln to fish,” recalled Mr. Vu.

A few years later, the 5-storey building of Thanh Xuan Bac dormitory was completed. This dirt road was repaired into a concrete road, mainly serving the movement of people in the area.

In the 1990s, there was a plan to build the Ring Road 3, running from the south of Thang Long bridge to the south of Thanh Tri bridge. In 2001, the road was started, the section from Trung Hoa intersection to Nguyen Trai intersection was named Khuat Duy Tien street.

But due to problems with site clearance, it was not until before the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi (2010), the 1.7km-long Khuat Duy Tien road – belonging to the Ring Road 3 was completed. underground, the upper part was completed in 2012.

Current status of Ring Road 3, Khuat Duy Tien Street in the past

“Now it’s a modern road, it can be said to be the first in the capital, because there is an elevated highway, below is an urban road with many lanes,” said Mr. Vu. According to him, many people have been away from Hanoi for about 20 years and when they return they do not recognize this area.

Witnessing that miraculous development of Khuat Duy Tien Street in particular and Ring Road 3 in general during 40 years, Mr. Vu could not help but be startled: “Our youth never thought there was such a beautiful road like this. There will be Ring 5, Ring 6 roads

In the early 2000s, after retiring from a mechanical business, Mr. Vu opened a small watch repair shop in the above playground. His attachment to Khuat Duy Tien’s path became increasingly closer.

At the beginning of the new road, the traffic was very comfortable, but a short time later, it crowded up very quickly, causing a traffic jam. In the afternoon, from 3:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., vehicles move slowly, and congestion occurs frequently.

“If there is a better arrangement, maybe it will also reduce congestion. But the character of our people, everyone is in a hurry, they keep jostling. On the sidewalk, motorbikes also climb up, so the congestion lasts longer. “, said Mr. Vu.

This situation is also reasonable with the important role and position of the route in being the gateway of the capital, connecting vehicles in the northern, northwest and southern provinces to the city center.

To solve this situation, the Hanoi People’s Committee has approved more capital to complete Ring Road 3, Ring 3.5, along with the policy of investment in construction of Ring 4 (112.8km long).

“There will certainly be more roads, Ring Road 5, Ring Road 6, for example, to reduce traffic on Khuat Duy Tien and Ring 3 roads,” Vu shared.

Faced with the worry of old age, work often have to face the traffic noise of Khuat Duy Tien Street, Mr. Vu laughed: “Actually, when I work, I can’t pay attention to the outside anymore. It’s already a habit, so it doesn’t affect health or life at all.”
