The US expands cooperation with Danone to increase the supply of baby formula

Christopher Calamari, president of nutrition company Abbott USA, told lawmakers that Abbott controlled 40 percent of the market before it was shut down and that the plant produced about 40 percent of Abbott’s output.

According to statistics at more than 11,000 retail stores in the US, 40% of popular brands of powdered milk began to run out of stock from the second half of April and the situation has become more serious in recent weeks.

Prior to the infant formula shortage crisis, 98% of US formula was produced domestically. Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration had to relax regulations on importing milk powder to cope with the ongoing shortage of formula milk.
