On May 24, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City opened a first-instance trial against defendant Bui Dinh Tai (32 years old, living in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) on the charge of “murder”.
According to the prosecution, in 2014, Tai and Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong D. lived together as husband and wife. By 2020, it is suspected that Ms. D. has an emotional relationship with another man, so the two often have conflicts and quarrels.
At the end of March 2021, Tai left his parents’ house. On March 28, 2021, the defendant returned to Ms. D. to ask for money to repair the phone.
When they met, Ms. D said she wanted to end the relationship because Tai didn’t make money and always brought bad luck to her. After listening, Tai took a Thai knife in the shelf to stab Ms. D. repeatedly.
Panicked, Ms. D. ran out of the room, calling for help. Although her relatives took her to the emergency room right after, but due to her severe injuries, at 8:15 p.m. on the same day, Ms. D. died.
As for Tai, after committing the crime, he drove a motorbike (borrowed by Ms. D from a relative for Tai’s use) to Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City, smashed all the plastic with stones, removed the control plate and discarded it. down the river. Two days later, on March 30, 2021, Tai was arrested by the police.
Before killing Ms. D., in 2003, Tai was sentenced to 5 years in prison for “robbing property”.
At the trial, the defendant sincerely confessed his crime and expressed his regret at taking the life of the person who used to be “knees and hands”.
Present in court, Ms. D.’s daughter said that when she was murdered, her family had to borrow money to pay for her funeral and she also had to quit her job to go to Japan to study and work to live. The house makes money to pay monthly interest to the creditor.
Considering that the defendant’s criminal act is extremely serious, has taken away the lives of others protected by law, and caused social disorder, it is necessary to have a severe sentence to deter and prevent shared.
After deliberation, the jury decided to sentence defendant Bui Dinh Tai to life in prison. Force the defendant to pay compensation for mental and emotional damage of 160 million dong.
