Two Vietnamese agencies elected to be members of the council of ESCAP centers

Within the framework of the 78th session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) taking place from May 23-27, 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 25. , General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment) and Institute of Agricultural Electromechanics and Postharvest Technology (VIAEP, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) were elected to the Council by ESCAP member countries. Managed by the Statistical Institute of Asia-Pacific (SIAP) and ESCAP’s Center for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM).

The Asia-Pacific Statistical Institute is a training center for statistics in the Asia-Pacific region, established in May 1970, and headquartered in Chiba, Japan.

The Center’s main function is to improve the statistical capacity of Member and Associate Member States. The main activity of SIAP is to organize statistical training courses; connecting and cooperating with international organizations, development partners and disseminating statistical information to serve socio-economic development.

The Center for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization is the center for agricultural mechanization in the Asia-Pacific region, headquartered in Beijing, China, established in 2012.

The main function of this center is to increase production, improve rural living standards and reduce poverty through mechanization of sustainable agriculture. Specific activities include strengthening technical cooperation between 62 member countries and territories through information exchange and knowledge sharing, research promotion, and technology transfer to achieve development goals. sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The fact that the General Statistics Office and the Institute of Agro-Electrical Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology were trusted to be elected to the Executive Council of two agencies of ESCAP shows that member countries highly appreciate the contribution of ESCAP.
