“We are now almost ready to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the establishment of a research facility on Moon with China,” Rogozin said in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel.

Moscow and Beijing plan to establish a joint research facility on the Moon by 2027. It will be a research facility designed for multiple purposes, such as Explore the Moonlunar observations, pilot studies and technology validation.

China plans to launch the Chang’e 8 probe as the first step towards establishing ILRS. This mission is expected to test 3D technology.

Currently, the Hang Nga 4 spacecraft and the self-propelled robot Rabbit Ngoc 2 are carrying out scientific tests on the Moon. The Chang’e 4 rover experimented with silkworms, potatoes and a cruciferous plant, to see how these creatures grow in the Moon’s environment. The Jade Rabbit 2 spacecraft, which has been on the dark side of the Moon since 2019, is currently exploring the Von Kármán crater.

The joint Russian-Chinese research station is believed to be an attempt to respond to the US’s exclusion from the Artemis Agreement. This Agreement sets forth principles, guidelines and best practices for the discovery of The universe of the United States and its partners. The United States intends to become the first nation to establish a permanent presence on the Moon.
