The Department of Disease Control of Thailand today decided to stop recording cases with positive rapid test results for SARS-CoV-2 virus in the daily number of COVID-19 cases. Instead, it is expected that from the beginning of June, the agency will only report cases requiring hospitalization.

The reason why Thailand adjusts its statistics of COVID-19 cases is because the country’s health officials believe that most of the positive rapid tests have mild symptoms, few symptoms or no symptoms. Changing the way the number of cases is recorded will not affect the monitoring of the epidemic.

Thailand is easing anti-epidemic measures, the country recently proposed to remove the mandatory mask wearing requirement in some areas and adjust the regulations by mid-June.
