Monkeypox is an endemic disease in several African countries caused by a rare virus that is transmitted from animals to humans. The disease can be spread by contact with people, primates, rodents, or objects contaminated with the virus, through the respiratory tract, eyes, nose, and mouth, and has an incubation period of 6 to 13 days. Monkeypox has similar symptoms to smallpox but is milder, and includes symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, fatigue, rash and enlarged lymph nodes.
