According to Radio RTHK (Hong Kong), after handing over the appointment letter to Mr. Li Jiachao, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said the central government would continue to comprehensively implement the “one country, two systems” principle. and correctly, and will carry out comprehensive joint management of the Hong Kong government and implement the motto “patriots govern Hong Kong”.

Mr. Li also emphasized that Beijing will support the chief executive of the Hong Kong special administrative region and the city government to run the apparatus according to the law. while emphasizing the need to improve people’s livelihoods, prevent COVID-19 and let Hong Kong integrate into the country’s common development.

“The central government believes in the new government and expects the new government to bring together and lead people from all walks of life in Hong Kong, to directly respond to concerns in society, to continuously improve the governance, as well as consolidating and enhancing the city’s position as an international financial, trade and transportation hub,” said Mr. Lee.

Mr. Ly Gia Sieu expressed his great honor to be appointed as the new chief executive of Hong Kong and pledged to do his best.

“I will not betray the central government’s trust in me and the expectations of the people of Hong Kong. At this important time of the 25th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to the motherland, I deeply understand. that I am shouldering important responsibilities,” said Mr. Ly Gia Sieu.

Mr. Lee is making his first trip to Beijing since being selected as chief executive of Hong Kong earlier this month. He is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officials.

Mr. Ly Gia Sieu (64 years old) has joined the Hong Kong police force since 1977. He was the only candidate in the recent election of chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, winning more than 99% of the votes. Mr. Lee will officially take office on July 1.
