On May 27, 2022 at Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue, Vietnam Forest Protection Department, Bach Ma National Park and Animals Asia held the Introduction Ceremony of Vietnam Bear Rescue Center II.

Vietnam Bear Rescue Center II was built in the administrative – service area of ​​Bach Ma National Park, with the capacity to raise and rescue more than 300 bears in a semi-natural environment. The project will be implemented from 2022 and completed in 2026. Once put into operation, the Center will operate in parallel with the Bear Rescue Center in Tam Dao National Park.

The representative of the Forest Protection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hieu – Deputy Director of the Forest Protection Department announced the decision approving the Project of Bear Rescue Center II by Animals Asia. sponsor. According to the Forest Protection Department, about 870 bears are kept in private facilities and households, with the exception of more than 300 bears that have been sent to state-run bear rescue centers. .

Mr. Nguyen Vu Linh, Director of Bach Ma National Park shared: “With the scale of raising more than 300 bears at the Bear Rescue Center in Bach Ma, it is hoped that Vietnam will soon end the breeding of bears for bile; and more importantly, the bears in captivity will be moved here and live a better life.… Then, when the Center is put into operation, local people will have more jobs and jobs. work and earn extra income; Bach Ma National Park will have more places to visit, more learning models and raising awareness for tourists and local communities about their responsibility and participation in protecting wildlife in general and bears. in particular”.

The Vietnam Bear Rescue Center II at Bach Ma National Park (Thua Thien Hue province) is about to be built, approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and relevant agencies.

The center will be located in the administrative area of ​​Bach Ma National Park, with an area of ​​12.7 hectares. The new center is expected to complete all items by 2026 with 12 bear houses and 12 semi-wild areas, administrative and resort areas for staff, isolation area, veterinary hospital, food processing area. Bear feeding area, education and communication area, waste treatment area and other infrastructure facilities.

The center will raise and rescue more than 300 bears received from private bear farms, violations and will stop keeping bears in private by the end of 2026. Bears in Vietnam will be preserved. Sustainability through increased public awareness of bear protection and integration into the research program on reintroduction and conservation of bears in the wild. Animals Asia provides a non-refundable aid of 10.5 million USD (equivalent to 242.5 billion VND).

Animals Asia has signed a memorandum of understanding with the General Department of Forestry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, towards ending 100% of the remaining bear farms in the country and bringing all Bears to rescue facilities, roadmap from 2017 to 2022. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Bear Rescue Center, operated and sponsored by Animals Asia in Tam Dao, is gradually operating at full capacity. household. Although there are several other Rescue Centers across the country that are capable of rescuing bears, none of them can guarantee the full rescue capacity of the remaining 300 bears.
