According to folk legend, the old farmer had a headache and didn’t know how to solve the pest problem to enter the new season, when an old man came from afar and called himself Doi Truan.

Mr. Doi Truan instructed people in each house to set up a simple worshiping group consisting of banh gio and fruit, then go out in front of their house to exercise. People followed suit, just a moment later, the worms fell and disappeared. Since then, the Tet holiday to kill insects is done every year.

Perhaps because it is associated with agricultural culture, the Dragon Boat Festival (Tet to kill insects) is still very thoughtfully worshiped in Vietnamese villages today.

According to the old custom, at noon, people in the countryside invite each other to pick medicinal leaves to treat skin itching, intestinal diseases or colds. Some places still have the custom of dyeing toenails and fingernails, examining trees for fruit, hanging wormwood to exorcise evil spirits… Today, most of these customs are no longer present, but the worshiping ceremony of the Dragon Boat Festival is still there. thoughtfully done.

The tray of offerings for the Dragon Boat Festival usually includes: incense, flowers, votive paper, water, glutinous wine, fruits and cakes with sour, spicy, and hot flavors. In which, it is indispensable to have banh tro, banh ú, glutinous rice wine, sticky rice, and tea.

Offerings for the Lunar New Year will be slightly different by region. For example, the North has banh troi on the offering tray, the South has banh ú, water-dried tea, and the Central region has millet tea. People in the Central region also often eat duck meat on this occasion because they think that duck meat is cool and can repel the heat to make the body healthier.
