Murder of ex-wife’s family because “forbidden to visit children”

When questioned, Hai was quite calm and complied with all requests of the police. Initially, Hai declared that he lived in the countryside as an agricultural worker and assistant. After marrying Ms. Duong, 28 years old, the couple lived in Hoa Hiep Trung ward, Dong Hoa town (Phu Yen) – about 400 meters away from his wife’s family.

A year later, they had a baby girl. However, the marriage did not take long to crack, when between Hai and his wife’s family there were many conflicts, often quarreling…

A few months after giving birth, the couple continued to have conflicts, along with irreconcilable hatred, they decided to divorce. Hai won the job of raising children but could not. The woman brought her daughter to the house where her parents lived. Many times Hai came to visit his son, wanting to heal his feelings, but his ex-wife’s family refused and refused to let him meet. Since then, he was frustrated and had the intention to kill his ex-wife’s parents and younger brother to take revenge.

On the afternoon of August 25, Hai brought a knife and hammer to Duong’s house in Hoa Hiep ward to carry out a plan to kill the whole family. When he got there, he found his parents and ex-wife in the house. Girls are sitting and playing, so they go to the front to observe. Everyone was indifferent and did not talk when they saw their daughter’s ex-husband.

At this time, Hai took a hammer to hit his father-in-law’s head, causing the old man to collapse on the spot. The wife, Ms. Le Thi Hien, 58 years old, and Ms. Duong heard the noise, ran to him and was killed by him.

Hai then took his daughter, 3 years old, to his home, about 500 meters away, and sent it to his relatives. When he remembered that his ex-wife’s younger brother had not yet been met, this guy went to look for him, but when he heard that he was far away, he stopped thinking, then drove a motorbike to Ho Chi Minh City to hide.

The case was discovered when Tran Thi Hien, 83 years old, Nguyen Cu’s mother, called the door many times but did not see the husband, wife, son and grandchildren answer. She asked neighbors to break down the door, discovering the bodies of her two children and niece lying in a pool of blood. And Duong’s daughter is missing.

Colonel Vo Duy Tuan, Deputy Director of the Phu Yen Provincial Police Department, said that the crime scene was sparsely populated, hundreds of meters apart. People around did not hear unusual noises from Mr. Nguyen Cu’s house, so when the incident happened, no one knew.

Directly present at the scene of the incident to direct the investigation, Colonel Tuan said the murder was particularly serious. The scene has many traces that are suspected to identify the murdered victims, everything inside is disturbed. Colonel Tuan asked the Criminal Police Department, along with many other forces involved in solving the case, to urgently search and launch the whole people to denounce the crime in order to catch the suspect soon.

The suspect was arrested while hiding in Ho Chi Minh City

Many police intervened, investigating all social relations, business conflicts, animosity between the victims and the surrounding. Many people are put under suspicion, they have no abnormal signs, or have alibi periods.

“From the traces at the scene, the evidence collected and the testimony of the people around, Hai was identified as a suspect, but had left the locality, so the Special Investigation Committee focused on this name and issued an order hunt,” said Senior Colonel Tran Thanh Tam, Head of Criminal Police Department -PC02, Phu Yen Public Security.

In addition, the Phu Yen Police also contacted and asked the Criminal Police Department’s Criminal Division (C02 of the Ministry of Public Security) to investigate. An investigation team of C02 was directly present in Phu Yen, coordinating with the locality to solve the case. Another group spread out to many places to track down the suspect.

According to Colonel Tam, scouts from the Criminal Police Department and the provincial investigation team discovered Hai went to many places in Ho Chi Minh City, and came to a friend’s house in Binh Tan district. On the evening of May 29, after many hours of tracking down the tracks, the police discovered that Hai was riding a motorbike to National Highway 1A, in District 12, he rushed to control it.
