Le Diem Chau (2003) was born and raised in Hanoi. Currently, Chau is a first-year international student at Texas Christian University (Texas, USA), majoring in journalism. Since the beginning of 9th grade, Diem Chau has achieved 7.0 IELTS score. In high school, she won the first prize in the 4th Student and Student English Talent Contest. Dream of changing journalism in essays
According to Chau, in the essay, she presented her idea of wanting to contribute to the development of journalism in Vietnam in the future. With confidence, Chau hopes to fulfill that ambition with the knowledge learned at school and her own experiences. About the reason, the 2003 girl frankly: “In my opinion, the current Vietnamese media is not really honest. There is a lot of fake news that confuses people. I don’t want such things to happen again.”
Since childhood, Chau has achieved many outstanding achievements, especially in foreign languages.
Diem Chau has had a great passion for journalism since he was a primary school student. Although no one in her family follows the field of journalism and orients Chau to this industry, she has always loved, researched, discovered and nurtured her passion.
Since high school, Chau has always been active in extracurricular activities. Besides being the head of the communication department, managing the school’s social networking sites, she also holds the position of president of the basketball club of Nguyen Sieu High School (the high school she studied in). Because of her love of radio, the female student that day enthusiastically took on the role of MC and announcer in many programs organized by the school.
With the above strengths and talents, she has demonstrated her “brand” and contributed to persuading choices from many universities.
However, to express so many ideas in an essay of only 100 words is an extremely difficult challenge. Before the topic “Why did you choose journalism. Prove yourself to the school”the female student soon had an idea in her mind.
But presenting a way to attract and score high within the word limit posed a great challenge. During the challenge, she refined every word; period, comma. An essay written for the 8th time still became a draft because Chau was not really satisfied.
Having a good command of English and strength in writing since middle school also helps female international students to become proficient in self-expression. According to her, the success to this day is the result of many factors. Especially, most of it does not come from the achievement of points, so she believes: “Score is not everything.”.
Dream life in the West
Thanks to her unremitting efforts, Diem Chau successfully gained many recruitments from universities. Deciding to choose Texas Christian University, the example of “people’s children” is currently very satisfied with the life of an international student in Texas.
In the early days, Chau did not face language barriers because of his good English. She also easily integrates into the environment and culture here. In particular, the “difficult” lessons for others turned out to be not difficult for her. Confiding about this, Chau thinks that the reason may be because she has studied with a difficult level since she was a student.
The life in the West of a female international student makes many people dream.
At Texas Christian University, she received a scholarship of about VND 4.4 billion. The number seems large, but Chau and his family always have to pay a lot more for the expensive monthly living and studying expenses.
However, Diem Chau always feels lucky because she receives full support from her family: “My parents don’t want me to be pressured about money, so every month they give me 50 million …”.
Chau added, she has never been forced to follow the desired adult career path. Receiving respect and support for her family’s decision from a young age, the daughter is always happy, confident and bold on the path to realizing her dream.
Although living comfortably, never have to worry about money and livelihood; Female international students still decide to work 15 hours a week from freshman year. Because according to her, the working environment is an ideal place to expand relationships. Therefore, even though the job of a restaurant server is not very related to the chosen profession, Chau always receives valuable benefits.
Besides having a hobby of watching basketball, the 2003 girl also holds a hobby of reading books, especially classic novels. Because according to Chau, besides watching news, reading news, reading books is a good habit to help increase vocabulary quickly. Whether in English or Vietnamese, this hobby has helped her improve and gain more experience in the field of journalism.
With specific plans, Diem Chau will participate in vocational training activities starting from sports in the second year. Currently, she dreams of working at CNN and Fox News (a famous news agency and television station in the US). Finally, about whether to return and work in Vietnam, Chau is still confused and has no clear plan.
