U23 Vietnam hides the post before the 2022 AFC U23 Championship?

The only information publicly shared in the internal match between U23 Vietnam and U23 UAE which took place on the night of May 28 (Vietnam time) is just the result. U23 Vietnam lost 2 goals in the first half and conceded again on the penalty spot in the second half. In the end, coach Gong Oh-kyun’s team lost 0-3 to the UAE. Notably, this is a rehearsal before the 2022 AFC U23 Championship in Uzbekistan.

Of course, that result made Vietnamese fans worried. But in fact, it is no coincidence that coach Gong Oh-kyun is confident and still affirmatively commends the performance of such players. After all, what U23 Vietnam showed in the defeat against U23 UAE only stopped at the final test.

It should be emphasized that in both halves, coach Gong Oh-kyun integrated experienced players with young talents of U23 Vietnam. This is not inherently the strongest squad of U23 Vietnam. The appearance of reserve goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan and the fact that the young player Khuat Van Khang replaced Bui Hoang Viet Anh as captain is a clear proof of the “hidden cards” of coach Gong Oh-kyun.

Similarly in the second half, a brand new formation based on the 4-3-3 formation was introduced into the field. Specifically, the U23 Vietnam squad includes: goalkeeper Nguyen Van Toan; 4 defenders include: Le Van Do, Luong Duy Cuong, Vu Tien Long, Doan Anh Viet; 3 midfielders are Dung Quang Nho, Ly Cong Hoang Anh, Nguyen Hai Long and 3 strikers Nguyen Van Tung, Nham Manh Dung and Ha Trung Hau.

In fact, coach Gong Oh-kyun’s final intention with U23 Vietnam in this match was just to test attacking positions and forge a variety of attack pieces. And in the end, Mr. Gong’s U23 Vietnam has not yet “shown its original form” with the strongest frame. What surprises are still waiting at the 2022 AFC U23 Championship, with the opening match against Thailand U23 on June 2.
