According to Pravda, on the night of May 30, a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine shot down a Russian plane over the front of Zaporizhzhia – a city in southeastern Ukraine, located on the banks of the Dnieper River.

The Ukrainian National Guard has officially confirmed that its Bandit corps has shot down the third Russian Su-25 attack aircraft thanks to the Igla MANPADS (Mobile Air Defense System).

“The precision, professionalism and deft actions of the fighters defending Zaporizhzhia truly terrify the Russian forces. Thanks to the enemy’s radio intercepts, they shot down not only 3 but more than 3 enemy planes. We will destroy them as long as necessary – until we win!”, the National Guard of Ukraine declared.

Earlier, on May 23, in Zaporizhzhia, a soldier of the Ukrainian National Guard also shot down the second Russian Su-25 attack.

The Igla man-portable air defense missile system is infrared-guided. This type of missile was officially accepted into service in the Russian Army in 2004 and is widely exported to many countries around the world, including Ukraine.

This is the most modern family of Russian man-portable air defense missiles, second only to Verba. This system includes 3 variants: Igla-1 (NATO designation SA-16 Gimlet), Igla (NATO designation SA-18 Grouse) and the most modern variant Igla-S (SA-24 Grinch). The Igla system has a range of 5.2 km and an altitude of 3.5 km.

Meanwhile, the Su-25 is a Soviet-designed attack, anti-tank and air support aircraft, still operating in the Russian Air Force as well as in countries that have imported this type of aircraft.

The Su-25 is heavily armed, with a twin 30 mm Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-2 cannon and ground attack weapons. This attack can also carry more than 4,000 kg of weapons.
