Ukrainian city begins accepting applications for Russian citizenship
The city of Melitopol in the province of Zaporizhia in the southeast Ukraine opened the first point to receive applications for Russian citizenship.
Vladimir Rogov, a member of the executive council of the military-civilian government of Zaporizhia, confirmed that he opened the first point to receive applications for admission. Russian nationalityand said it is starting to accept citizens, according to RIA Novosti.
“The Russian Federal Migration Service has opened its first location in Melitopol. From today (May 31), the reception of applications for Russian citizenship will begin,” Rogov announced.
The place in question is located at the Administrative Service Center on Chernyshevsky Street No. 37.
Before, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the simplification of Russian citizenship for residents of the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions of Ukraine.
Also on May 31, Zaporizhia and Kherson began switching to Russia’s mobile network and Internet.
“A Kiev attack destroyed telecommunications systems in Kherson and Zaporizhia. The liberated territories used the Internet and Russia’s proprietary telecommunications network. In essence, this is the end of Ukraine’s propaganda campaign,” said Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to the Crimean leadership on information policy.
According to him, people can start buying SIM cards from Russian carriers.
A day ago, Kherson’s military-civilian government asked Russia to help restore telecommunications networks in the region, after the Ukrainian army cut telecommunications cables because of shelling. Mobile subscribers in Kherson and Zaporizhia lost connection.
In addition, the two provinces of Kherson and Zaporizhia have also switched to using Russia’s +7 phone area code.
Army Russia took control of these provinces. The local government of Kherson and Zaporizhia both announced plans to become part of Russia.
