How are household appliances and electronic equipment handled?

It can be seen that when water enters the house, what many people worry about is not only cars, tables and chairs but also household appliances and electronics.

On a home appliance Facebook group, a user shared a case of his dishwasher having problems after a historic flood. Accordingly, her dishwasher was flooded 1/4, now although the water has drained, she has not dared to plug in the power to make it run again and does not know what to do next.

Beneath the comment section of the article, many people think that everything is “more or less good” with the poor owner’s dishwasher. Because, the main board of the dishwasher is located close to the bottom of the machine. According to the image above, it is possible that the board has been completely submerged in water.

In addition to the main board, the dishwasher’s motor and a variety of other sensors will also be affected more or less, resulting in the dishwasher not being able to function as it should or worse, completely failing.

In the family, not only the dishwasher, but many other electronic devices and appliances such as televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, etc., can become discarded items if they are not handled promptly when a case of water leakage occurs. , flooding.

Here are some notes given by EVN (Vietnam Electricity Corporation) to handle electronic equipment and appliances after flooding occurs. Complying with the precautions can limit damage to the device as well as endanger the safety of the user

    1. Check and clean the device

Water enters the home, flooding equipment with mud, soil, dirt and possibly harmful microorganisms.

Therefore, you should check and clean the equipment as soon as the flooding has been resolved. It is necessary to remove the cover, check the important internal parts of the device such as wires, circuit boards, sensors or other details such as fuses, switches, sockets…

Inspect important equipment components and clean them after flooding occurs. (Illustration)

In particular, with mud equipment, you need to clean to remove all the sludge immediately. Because when the residual sludge remains, they will absorb moisture and cause damage to the device.

After cleaning with clean water or a dry towel, dry the parts of the device.

– Step 1: Use a fan to blow strong air into the damp device to evaporate the water.

– Step 2: When the appliance is relatively dry, use a dryer to dry it. Note: Electronic components can only withstand temperatures of 50 – 60 degrees Celsius, so leave the dryer at the lowest temperature and take a break every 2-3 minutes and then dry again, until the device is completely dry.

A dryer with a temperature of 50 – 60 degrees Celsius can be used to dry electronic devices after being submerged in water. (Illustration)

If you don’t use a dryer, you can do it in the following way: Close a wooden or cardboard box, put electrical and electronic equipment inside, turn on about 2-3 incandescent bulbs (circular bulbs) put in the box and let it cool. about 8 o’clock. The bulb’s temperature of about 50 – 60 degrees Celsius can help dry the device from deep inside.

    2. Do not plug in the power and use the device right away

After drying the electrical equipment, do not plug it in for a test run or use it right away. Because if you plug in the power in a hurry, the device will be at risk of smoke, fire, and explosion because there may be moisture between the machine parts.

Better yet, let the device drain and rest completely within 24 hours. To be more sure before putting it into use, you can also use a multimeter to measure insulation resistance, ensuring good insulation.

The work of checking the devices and electronics of your family can be done at home if you have enough knowledge, skills and tools. However, if the equipment is flooded with too much water, it is better to call a professional repairman or bring it to a reputable facility.

In addition, when detecting heavy rain and signs of flooding, the first thing to do is to move the device to a higher location and unplug the power as quickly as possible to avoid unfortunate incidents. out.
