Sheriff Carmine Marcen of Lee County, Florida, said investigators learned the boy made a shooting threat on May 28 and arrested the child, according to AP. “This student’s behavior is infuriating, especially after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Marcen said.

An 18-year-old gunman entered Robb Elementary School in the town of Uvalde on May 24 and shootings entered a fourth grade, killing 19 students and 2 teachers. Mr. Marceno stressed that “making sure our children are safe comes first”.

According to Marceno, investigators were aware of text messages threatening to shoot from the boy. “We will have law and order in the schools! My team did not hesitate… immediately investigated that threat,” said Police Chief Marcelo. He said investigators questioned the boy and offered possible reasons for the child’s arrest.

The boy was charged with making threats to carry out a mass shooting. “Right now is not the time to act like a child criminal. This child made a false threat and now suffers the real consequences,” he said.

In one video, the Lee County sheriff’s office shows an officer accompanying the boy to a patrol vehicle. Lee County Sheriff did not say whether the child was still in the juvenile detention facility or was released to the parents.
