Confrontation history
Historically, the Vietnamese and Afghan teams have only met twice, within the framework of the third qualifying round of the 2019 Asian Cup. And both of those meetings resulted in a draw.
In the first leg at Pamir Stadium in Tajikistan, the match ended with a 1-1 draw, the only goal scorer for the Vietnamese team was Van Toan. That was also the last time striker HAGL scored for the Vietnamese team.
In November 2017, the Vietnamese team welcomed Afghanistan at My Dinh home ground. The two teams tied without a goal. In particular, this is the debut match of coach Park Hang Seo after taking office.
