On the afternoon of June 1, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to summarize and reward the achievements of Vietnam’s sports delegation (TTVN) at the 31st SEA Games. Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly congratulated and praised the outstanding achievements that the Vietnamese delegation has achieved.
“We had a brilliantly successful SEA Games, a fair, honest and transparent SEA Games with a noble sports spirit. It is also a testament to Vietnam’s safe and flexible adaptation. and effectively control the COVID-19 epidemic, recover and develop the economy, confidently open the door to the world, the Vietnam Youth Union Union has shown great determination, surpassing itself with outstanding achievements with 446 medals from various competitions. In which, achieved a record of 205 gold medals (breaking the record of 194 gold medals set by the Indonesian sports delegation in 1997); breaking 21/41 SEA Games records, consolidating the leading position in Athletics and position second in Swimming, successfully defended gold medals in men’s and women’s football, thereby discovering many young, potential and promising athletes,” emphasized Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

At the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony, 4 athletes were honored to receive the Second-class Labor Medal, namely Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming team, won 5 gold medals, set 2 records at SEA Games 31); Athlete Tran Hung Nguyen, Swim team, won 4 gold medals, set a record at SEA Games 31, athlete Nguyen Thi Huong (National Canoeing team won 5 gold medals at SEA Games 31), athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh (athletics team won 5 gold medals at SEA Games 31), athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh won 3 gold medals, set 1 record at SEA Games 31).
In addition, 21 collectives and individuals were honored to be awarded the Third-class Labor Medal and 161 athletes and 39 coaches and experts were awarded the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.
