Robots to help move heavy objects in Japan

Robots was named Bex after the wild goat Ibex. The robot possesses large horns and can move on all fours on rough terrain or use wheels mounted under its belly on flat terrain. Bex can bear loads up to 100 kg.

The Bex robot is designed to move quickly in a wheel configuration and in a walking configuration for maneuvering on uneven terrain.

The development team puts stability at the heart of the device. When the robot rolls, all the wheels of the robot stick to the ground, and when maneuvering on foot, the robot always keeps at least two feet on the ground. This design integrates with the gravity dynamic balancing system, reducing computational requirements and making it safer to use the robot together with humans.

The head of the robot can be replaced with other structures suitable for the use situation such as a horse’s head or a set of weapons suitable for the use.

The robot is battery-powered and can move automatically or remotely. Bex is expected to solve the shortage of agricultural and forestry workers due to the aging population in Japan.

The development company said it will continue to test Bex this year and hope to commercialize the robot next year.
