The family of the American school shooter all have criminal records

The grandmother and parents of Salvador Ramos, the Texas school shooter, both have criminal records, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to Uvalde County court records, Salvador Ramos Sr. and Adriana Martinez, the parents of the shooting suspect Ramos, both broke the law more than a decade ago. Martinez is accused of writing a fake check for $22.62 to a general store in Uvalde on June 30, 2003, around the time Ramos was born.

Records show that Martinez was struggling financially at the time, earning only $500 a month from his job at the Golden Dragon restaurant in Uvalde. She also received $223 in benefits and $269 in food stamps.

When committing the offense, Martinez was living in an apartment with 6 people and marital status was single, apparently having broken up with Ramos Sr. Martinez pleaded guilty on September 27, 2005, to a fine of $250, a court fee of $218, and was sentenced to 180 days in prison. However, Martinez pleaded guilty, so she was placed on probation with 25 hours of mandatory community service instead.

Two years later, Martinez was sued for allegedly assaulting and causing bodily harm to a family member. The lawsuit was dismissed on September 26, 2007 and Martinez had to sign up for Anger Management Consulting. She also had to pay $1,928 for the attorney’s office and other court fees.

In 2000, father Salvador Ramos Sr. was charged with resisting a law enforcement officer while they were arresting him. Ramos Sr appeared to have scuffled with police officer Daniel Rodriguez and fled. He was sentenced to 180 days in prison and had to apologize to the Uvalde police in writing.

11 years later, Ramos Sr. accused of assault with a deadly weapon. According to the July 2, 2012 indictment, Ramos Sr. beat a man named Enrique Jesus Perez with a beer bottle. Ramos suffers The court ordered to stay away from the victim and to be tested for drugs and alcohol. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison and had to undergo a substance abuse treatment program.

Ramos’ grandmother, Celia “Sally” Martinez Gonzales, who was shot in the face by the suspect on the day of the shooting, was arrested on June 9, 1993. She was found guilty and sentenced to two years of probation, and had to pay a fine of $500 and a court fee of $157. It is not clear what wrongdoing Gonzales did at the time.

Ramos, 18, killed 19 students and two teachers when he opened fire at Robb Primary School in Uvalde on May 24. It is the deadliest school shooting in the United States since 2012.

Mrs. Gonzales is out of danger, but may never speak again. A relative said the bullet entered her jaw and broke all of her teeth. Her husband had previously said she was awake but in pain.

Both Ramos Sr. and Martinez both apologized for their son’s actions. The father said that it should have been him who should have been killed.

“I have no words to say, I don’t know what he’s thinking,” Martinez said. “I just want the innocent dead children to forgive me, for my son. I know he has a reason.”
