Russia proposes a way to end the Ukraine conflict
Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Russia (House of Representatives) proposes how to end the military operation in Ukraine.
Russian military campaign in Ukraine may end if Kiev agrees to negotiate – Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov announced on June 1.
“The operation will develop according to plan and, in my opinion, will end when the current Ukrainian leadership is ripe for negotiations,” Kartapolov told RIA Novosti. The situation on the ground has changed and Kiev’s forces are beginning to crack.”
The last round of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was held on March 29 in Istanbul, Turkey. Here, Kiev proposed to sign an international agreement to guarantee Ukraine’s security, in return for which the country would agree to the neutrality status that Russia demanded before the conflict began.
However, these negotiations ultimately failed and the two sides continued to blame each other for the lack of progress in negotiations.
May 30, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan invited Russia and Ukraine to hold a new round of talks in Istanbul, noting that the peace process appeared to have made at least some progress before it broke down.
“President Erdogan stated that Turkey is ready, if it is agreed in principle by both sides, to meet with Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations in Istanbul, and assume the role of a possible observational mechanism.” The Turkish president’s press office said in a statement.
Erdogan stressed “the need for steps that can reduce the negative effects of war and build trust by restoring as soon as possible the foundations of peace between Russia and Ukraine.”
Russia has not yet commented on the Turkish proposal, while the Kremlin press release on the phone call between President Vladimir Putin and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not mention the proposal at all. According to the press release, the Ukraine issue in the phone call between Putin and Erdogan mainly revolved around ensuring safety in the Black and Azov seas, as well as demining.
“Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia is ready to facilitate the unimpeded movement of goods at sea with the coordination of Turkish partners. This also applies to grain exports from Ukrainian ports,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
Turkey maintains a neutral position in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Ankara maintains relations with both sides, does not join Western sanctions on Russia and tries to take on a mediating role in the conflict.
Before, The US also presented a way to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “Peace talks between Moscow and Kiev would be a reasonable option to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said on May 31 in an interview with Fox. News.
