Switzerland bans Denmark from transferring armored vehicles ‘tiger fish’ to Ukraine
Swiss authorities on June 1 rejected Denmark’s request to deliver 20 Mowag Piranha armored vehicles to Ukraine.
According to Politico.eu, the above decision is considered a move to show Switzerland’s neutral stance, when they always ask countries to buy weapon permission is required when exporting weapons to a third country, and prohibits the transfer of Swiss-made weapons to conflict countries such as Ukraine.
Mowag Piranha ‘Tiger Fish’ is a wheeled armored vehicle built by the Swiss defense corporation MOWAG and put into service since 1972. Up to now, MOWAG has launched at least 5 versions for the military. civil service and some variations for civilian use. According to a source posted by Defense Blog, the variant that Denmark wants to transfer to Ukraine is the Mowag Piranha III.
Mowag Piranha III has a weight of 18.5 tons; 7.57m long; 2.71m wide; 2.66m high. The crew of the car has 3 people including the driver, the driver and the gunner. The rear compartment of the vehicle is large enough to carry 11 fully armed soldiers. When it is necessary to deploy infantry on the battlefield, the crew will open the rear door of the vehicle.
The car is equipped with a Caterpillar C9 engine with a capacity of 400 horsepower, so the Piranha III can travel at a speed of 100 km / h on flat terrain, with a range of up to 700 km. When wading in water, the vehicle’s speed reaches 10 km/h.
The Piranha III is armed with a 12.7mm machine gun aimed at fighting enemy infantry. However, the MOWAG corporation can replace the above machine gun with a turret using 30mm or 105mm ammunition, depending on the combat requirements of foreign customers.
