The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested the police to join the violence case at the international school

On the afternoon of June 2, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held a press conference on the socio-economic situation in May, tasks and solutions in June 2022 and the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training Ho Tan Minh exchanged information regarding the violence case among students at American Academy International School.

According to Mr. Minh, up to now, the Department has invited representatives of the school and the Department of Education of Thu Duc city to work. Stakeholders are required to quickly and definitively resolve this case, ensuring the children’s attendance to school and study.

According to Mr. Minh, the Department also requested the police agency to intervene, capture and handle unorthodox and conflicting information on the internet related to the case when there is no official conclusion. Authorities also need to get involved in cases of threats and mental terror to those involved in the incident.

Mr. Minh said, the case attracted the attention and mixed opinions of the public when there were parents livestreaming the context to discuss with leaders and teachers at the school.

Before that, American Academy International Wall said that after the official class, the teacher in charge was informed that there was a group of students fighting each other outside, 2 blocks from the school. These students were led back to the school by the teacher in charge and taken to the medical room for a health check, then met with the school administration to report the incident.

However, the exchange between the administrators and students was forced to stop when the parents of these students arrived at the school, asking the school to immediately handle the case and handle the student. At that time, due to the recent incident, the school did not have enough information, so it could not make an immediate decision to deal with the student or the incident. The school explained this to the parents, however some parents disagreed and had inappropriate and uncooperative actions and attitudes with the school.

On May 27, through the surveillance camera system and through discussions with other students, the school found that there was a fight between a group of students that occurred outside the school’s campus and outside the school’s official school hours. The starting point is the back and forth teasing between the students, and the situation becomes tense when the students have bad words about each other. This is also the cause of the conflict. The location of the incident was outside the school campus, 2 blocks from the school.

The school has contacted 3 out of 5 parents. These 3 parents have agreed to meet with the school on May 30 and 31 to discuss and resolve the case.
