‘Dreamwalking’ by Tran Quang Huy
The exhibition “Sleepingwalking” by artist Tran Quang Huy displays 40 works he has created in the last 3 years.
From June 4-11, 2022, the Art Space art space of Vietnam University of Fine Arts will take place exhibition Sleep walking by artist Tran Quang Huy. After half a decade of not painting, in the past three years, Tran Quang Huy has quietly questioned himself with about 90 new works, choosing 40 paintings to display in this solo painting exhibition.
Art researcher Vu Huy Thong said that by naming his latest work “Dreamwalking”, painter Tran Quang Huy seemed to mean that the artistic journey is actually just beautiful and painful illusions. pain in the life of an artist or is more “gnostic”, realizing that it is just a trip in countless impermanent movements of creation?
“Starting with the blank space of the canvas, starting from “no”, his method of composition has no preparation for sketches, no searching for shapes, finding composition, finding ideas but simply patiently waiting. Consciousness leads to aimless brushstrokes, often from the same palette of paints that were not finished the day before.Only two polar opposites: either absolute silence, or emotional ecstasy, one can fall into a semi-conscious sleepwalking state. half-maze leaves the way for the subconscious to fulfill its need to create shapes/colors on the two-dimensional plane, and its own hidden traces are the third dimension – the most attractive dimension for the audience’s synchronized vision.
As he said himself about his new series of paintings, the feeling of “floating” of the space of color arrays is his new and favorite feeling, is it not due to the intentionality of experiential technical reason, it is the “fruit” received from listening to the mind, it is the time when water waves and sound waves have just stopped moving and entered a state of deep sound, sleepwalking, and being at ease,” commented researcher Vu Huy Thong.
Painter Tran Quang Huy graduated from Hanoi University of Fine Arts (now Vietnam University of Fine Arts) since 1988, has participated in many domestic and international group exhibitions with the group “Five new Faces”: Tran Quang Huy, Tran Tuan, Nguyen Quoc Hoi, Pham Ngoc Minh, Dinh Quan, had 3 solo exhibitions in the late 1990s and have works in many private collections.
