German train derailed, overturned

A train derailed near a resort in southern Germany, killing at least three people and injuring many more.

The train derailed at 13:55 (18:55 Hanoi time) on June 3 in the Burgrain district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, after leaving the town for the city of Munich. Local officials said at least three people on board were killed and several passengers injured.

Video of the scene showed several carriages overturned and deformed after the accident. Rescuers broke glass windows, climbed ladders and climbed inside the carriage to get the victim out. Officials Virtue The cause of the problem has not been reported.

Three rescue helicopters from the state of Tyrol, Shirt to the scene to assist the German search and rescue force. Deutsche Bahn, the operator of Germany’s railway system, announced that part of the Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen line was blocked after the accident, trains changed directions.

German police officers and soldiers at Schloss Elmau, 11 kilometers from the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, were dispatched to assist in the rescue operation. This force was originally deployed to ensure security ahead of the meeting of G7 leaders at Schloss Elmau, scheduled for June 26-28.

The most recent fatal railway accident in Germany occurred on February 14, when two trains collided near the city of Munich, killing one person and injuring 14 others.

Germany recorded its deadliest rail accident in 1998, when a high-speed train operated by Deutsche Bahn derailed in Eschede, Lower Saxony, killing 101 people.
