Kim Hee Sun learned to care and empathize after filming Tomorrow

Based on the webtoon of the same name, the fantasy drama “Tomorrow” ended on 5/21. The film revolves around a group of grim reapers who work hard at an underworld company to save people who commit suicide, not take their lives.

In the drama, Kim Hee Sun plays the role of Koo Ryeon, a charismatic leader of the risk management team responsible for saving suicides. The character Choi Joon-woong (Rowoon) accidentally goes into a coma after meddling in Ryeon’s affairs, which leads him to join the team and on a journey to save the various troubled people who are on the shore. area of ​​their lives.

The 16-episode series deals with social issues ranging from school bullying, eating disorders and workplace “gapjil” – a Korean word that refers to the abuse of power by those with power. authority over those they value higher or those in a weaker position than them.

In an interview with Korea Times, Kim Hee Sun said that she felt the need to take on the role when she came across the series.

“Unfortunately, Korea has the highest suicide rate among OECD countries… about 37 people take their own lives on average every day. This is heartbreaking, so I thought I had to join in. into the sequence of events'” – Kim Hee Sun said.

“I believe this is the first project where I decided to join without thinking about the outcome. I feel like I won’t regret it no matter the outcome. The opportunity to take on such a role. will bring a sense of encouragement and comfort to others.”

The character played by Kim Hee Sun seems to be unyielding, always outspoken with the people she is supposed to save, in order to face the harsh reality. But she eventually empathizes with them and helps them realize that life is worth living and seeks revenge on those responsible for their suicidal intentions.

Kim Hee Sun shared that she tried to discover a new voice style and intonation to portray many layers of characters.

“I tried to use a voice and speaking style that I had never used in my previous works… I tried my best to sometimes look aloof and hide my emotions. my own, and my expression when I have to,” she said.

“It’s not my personality to openly comfort others and sympathize with their pain. Although it would be better if she could encourage them with warm words, I feel she should. Let’s keep a calmer attitude. What’s right and wrong from each person’s point of view. Therefore, I tried to set the tone to match the character.”

She added that the hardest part about playing the character was not being emotional about each person’s story.
