Prayers for the Lunar New Year

According to the perpetual calendar, Lunar New Year 2022 is the 5th day of the 5th lunar month this year on Friday 3/6/2022. The Dragon Boat Festival has existed for a long time in Eastern folklore and has influenced cultural activities. In Vietnam, folk also called Tet killing insects.

According to the old concept, on this day, we must kill insects as soon as we wake up in the morning and kill them with food, especially with sticky rice wine, ash cakes and fruits…

For children: Get up early in the morning while the child is still in bed, feed them fruit, a little sticky rice wine, boiled eggs, apply persimmon to the fontanelle, chest, and navel to kill insects. After that, I go to wash my face, hands and feet, brush my teeth and wash my face.

As for adults, when waking up in the morning, they must not put their feet on the ground, but must rinse their mouth 3 times to get rid of insects, then eat a boiled duck egg. Then get out of bed and drink some wine (or eat a bowl of sticky rice wine) to get the bugs drunk, then eat fruit to kill the bugs.

On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival (May 5th of the lunar calendar), Vietnamese people often make a tray of rice to offer to their ancestors and pray for a new harmonious and lucky business season.

The tray of worshiping ancestors on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival includes: incense, flowers; Country; Glutinous-rice wine. The offering tray also includes fruits: plum, sapodilla, watermelon, litchi, banana. Homeowners can prepare more banh tro (banh gio) and lotus seed tea will make the offering tray more full. The offerings of the Doan Ngo New Year festival will be slightly different according to regions such as the North having ash cake on the offering tray, the South having banh ú, water drifting tea, and the Central region having millet tea.

According to the old custom, people often worship in the early morning, but in fact, the Dragon Boat Festival is conducted at the main time of the Horse (noon 12 noon) on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. Doan means opening, Horse is the period from 11am to 1pm.
