The longest reigning person in the UK – the oldest head of state in the world

With her reign for 70 years and nearly 4 months in a row, Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest-serving person to the throne in British Royal history. The previous record was held by Queen Victoria. At 96 years old, Queen Elizabeth II is also the oldest head of state in the world today.

The British monarch traveled to the most countries

During her reign, Queen Elizabeth II has traveled to more than 100 countries – since 1952 – the most of any British monarch.

She has made more than 150 visits to Commonwealth countries. It is estimated that Queen Elizabeth II’s foreign trips totaled the equivalent of 42 times around the world before she stopped traveling abroad in November 2015, at the age of 89.

Queen Elizabeth II is also considered a pioneer monarch in many fields of the digital age. She activated the official website of Buckingham Palace in 1997, first posted on Twitter in 2014 and officially had an Instagram network account in 2019.
